William Black
William Black was born around 1838 in Ireland. He arrived, on the ship Glen, which embarked in New York City. With his mother, Jane; father, John; and his brother Gustavus; he settled in Washington, CT where his family farmed.
He enlistmented at the age of 23 on September 27, 1861 as a Private in Company I, 8th Infantry Regiment Connecticut Volunteers. He reenlisted on December 23, 1863. On MAy 7, 1864, he was wounded at Walthall Junction VA. He was the discharged for disability on June 12, 1865.
After the war, he married Mary Elizabeth Barber. William died on 19 March 1918, but no location is given.
