Samuel A. Whittlesey
Samuel A. Whitlesey was born in New Britain, CT in August 1844 to Mr. David Waller Whittlesey and Mrs. Dolly Betsy Averill.
Samuel enlisted on August 25, 1862 in Co. I., 22nd Connecticut Volunteers, as a Corporal at the age of 18. He was mustered out on July 7, 1863.
He married Ada Josephine Savage of Berlin, Connecticut in October of 1866 and had three surviving children: David Lyman, Willis Savage, and John Smalley. As a deacon of the church, he settled in Morris as a farmer.
“Of course, he was most interested in reading on religious topics; but he read not a little of biography, travel, natural science and history”
He died on January 11, 1918 and is buried in East Morris Cemetery in Morris.
