Romulus C. Loveridge
Romulus Curtis Loveridge was born on October 27, 1839 in Northville Connecticut. He attended school at The Gunnery, absorbing the teachings of the abolitionist Frederick W. Gunn.
After Gunnery, he spent half a year at Williams College and the second half at Yale College. This was the 1861-62 school year.
After leaving Yale, he enlisted in company H of the 19th Connecticut Volunteers as a Sergeant. While stationed in
Alexandria in defense of Washington, he spent a good deal of time with his friend Charles Goodyear.
He was then promoted into the 3rdUnited States Colored Troops.
After the war, Romulus spent time in Florida. In 1869 he was appointed county clerk, and held the position for four years. In 1873 he moved north, and
eventually entered into the Hartford Seminary. He had to leave after a year due to poor eyesight and health.
He moved west and got a license to preach by the Oberlin Seminary. While living with relatives in West Virginia due to constant illness, Romulus opened up his own missionary.
In 1886, Romulus, now in much better health, moved to Florida again. He died of heart failure on January 3, 1930.
