Gustavus H. Black
Gustavus H. Black was born on August 5, 1840 in Ireland. He arrived, at the age of 7, on the ship Glen, which embarked in New York City. With his mother, Jane; father, John; and his brother William; he settled in Washington, CT where his family farmed.
He enlistmented on August 11, 1862 at the age of 22 as a Private in Company H, 19th Infantry Regiment ConnecticutVolunteers. In November 23, 1863, he was mustered into the 2nd Heavy Artillery Regiment C. Volunteers. He was discharge on June 16, 1865.
He married Sarah Black around 1865.
Gustavus died on March 19, 1926 in Middletown, New York
