Google book (Page 72, 663615). According to the Goodyear genealogy Colonel P
Goodyear was born on 2 Dec 1842 in Washington, Connecticut. Charles P Goodyear’s parents
(page 70, 66361, of the genealogy) were a John Goodyear (Born: 11 Sept 1790,
perhaps in Cornwall, Connecticut; Died: 29 April 1865, in perhaps Washington,
Connecticut) and a Sally Bowers (Born: About 1808, perhaps in New Milford,
Connecticut; Died: 19 April 1861, Washington, Connecticut). Charles P Goodyear
had two older brothers (Stephen W and Gilbert John Goodyear) and an older
sister Elizabeth Sophia Goodyear. The Goodyear genealogy states that Charles
enlisted for Civil War service following the death of his mother in 1861.
Charles was wounded and crippled in his right arm during his military service in
the Civil War. Following the Civil War Charles returned to Connecticutand then went to Virginia, where he
remained for three years. By 1870 Charles was in Brunswick, Georgiawhere on 5 Sept 1871 he
married Emma F Flint. Emma F Flint was born in 1854, the daughter of E B Flint
of Bridgeport, Connecticut who moved to Brunswick after 1870. Charles P and Emma
Goodyear had five children, four of whom lived to adulthood.
